My mother suffered a stroke and I was referred to Home Care Assistance of Richmond. Initially, they provided companion care for my mother during the day, seven days a week. Upon release of a friend from a rehab facility we interviewed 3 home care facilities. Home Care Assistance was the one we choose in August. Home Care Assistance has continued to care for our friend since that time and continues to care for her. Becky Grim has been great about helping us meet the needs of our friend and has been flexible with the time periods needed. Our friend is on oxygen 24/7 and has uses a walker. We have had the same aid which is helpful because they know the routine of the person they are helping and caring for. The aids are great with getting her to doctor appointments and other errands when needed. The aids help with preparing breakfast and lunch and do various things around the house when asked. Dianne L. is an employee of Home Care Assistance. She has been coming to care for my dad since October 1 of this year. She comes from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. on weekdays. First, she is tremendously personable and friendly. Dianne is articulate and incredibly positive in her outlook and interactions. She works very diligently to keep my dad engaged during her time with him, knowing that, despite his current dementia, he has intelligence and the remnants of some great thought processes still apparent beneath the surface. She reads to him and discusses with him the topics covered. Dianne brings in literature she knows, or hopes will be interesting to him. For example, knowing my dad was a WWII B-17 pilot, she picked up a book at the thrift store on vintage airplanes from the era of his flying days. They perused it together, but he also frequently pages through it with wonder. something he needs. My dad often does not remember her name – nor does he mine! – but he KNOWS that Dianne makes him feel valued and well-cared-for, something that is priceless to me. She is totally punctual and just has the most wonderful way about her with all her conversations with my dad and with me. Dianne is a truly quality person in every way, and I could not be happier with her as a caregiver nor more grateful for her sunny presence in our home and lives. I NEVER worry about my dad when she is with him and I am not home!

She could barely walk, could notdress or undress herself due to her shoulder, and was pretty much dependent on someone else to do most things. They helped my mom get showered, dressed, they washed and dried the sheets and then changed the bed.
